MRO Network : Joramco Pursues Middle East Modifications Growth

The Jordanian MRO plans to form a strategic, long-term partnership with GDC Engineering for maintenance and modification services in the region.

Joramco and GDC Engineering—a susidiary of GDC Technics—have announced plans to partner up on aircraft maintenance and modification services in Jordan.

The companies recently signed a letter of intent (LOI) to form a strategic, long-term partnership to pursue opportunities for commercial aircraft modifications and repairs in the region, which the companies say is experiencing an “ever increasing market.” According to Aviation Week’s 2019 Commercial Fleet & MRO Forecast, the Middle East region will experience a 7.3% compound annual growth rate over the next decade.

The partnership will leverage GDC’s EASA Design Organization Approval (DOA) alongside Joramco’s local manpower. Under the LOI, GDC—which specializes in aircraft engineering, modification and VVIP completion services—will provide engineering and Part 21J certification services while the Jordanian MRO will provide engineering, labor and equipment at its Amman-Jordan facility in accordance with EASA and FAA regulations.

“This LOI is the start of a long-term partnership with Joramco to provide customers with a wide variety of services, particularly Part 21J modifications and repairs to support the expanding fleet of aircraft in the region,” explains Ian Sidsaff, managing director, GDC Engineering. The Middle East region’s fleet is predicted to nearly double by 2028.

According to a representative for Joramco, the partnership is the MRO’s first time working with GDC. The representative adds that GDC was a compelling prospective partner due to its EASA DOA and FAA Organization Designation Authorization as well as its capabilities within design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing and certification of structures and systems modifications.

Joramco intends to pursue a “significant number of interior and IFE modifications” with GDC and says the partnership will enable it to expand its MRO capabilities to aircraft beyond its current customer base. According to GDC, its work with Joramco will provide opportunities for expanding its modification offerings, which include both cabin refurbishments and reconfigurations as well as connectivity and IFE upgrades.
